Today we learned how to trace images in illustrator using the tracing tool or the pen tool. This was done in order to make raster images into vector images in illustrator.
The process starts as follows, we first out the image we want to trace on illustrator using the menu option ‘place’. The by clicking on the window menu > Image Trace we can begin tracing our image using the image trace option.
After setting everything up in the image menu we then began pressing the trace button to fully expand the image into a vector object.
Here’s my traced image:
The following task consisted of tracing the Starbucks Logo using the pen tool as well as the direct selection option in illustrator. This process was tricky as the pen tool can be quite hard to use however I managed to get it done!. I started with the crown and made my way down slowly making sure I focused in attention to detail. Knowing some illustrator tools beforehand I remembered I could use the Anchor Point tool to manipulate my anchors in order to make sure I could get smoothest curves possible. Then using the pathfinder tool I went ahead and extruded some round shapes in order to make the eyes and the nose as well as the mouth.
Finally I exported the image as a PNG.
